About this Coffee

Cerro San Luis is a multi generational micro-mill owned and operated by two brothers and their spouses in the West Valley of Costa Rica. The sibling’s farms are adjacent to one another, with the mill located at the family’s home, just a few miles away. We were lucky enough to visit Cerro San Luis in 2023 and again this year, and were transported from
their home/mill to the farms in the back of their big red dump truck– quite the immersive experience!

This coffee is a SL28 variety and a White Honey process. The SL28 variety was developed in Kenya in the 1930s and is known for its unique characteristics of bright acidity and complex flavors, which take on their own personality in Costa Rican soil. In honey process coffees, only the skin is removed with mucilage left on the seed before drying. The coffee is then laid out on raised beds for a few days while being routinely turned until dry, where it develops the distinct flavors of honey profiles. The combination of the SL28 variety and white honey process creates a vibrant flavor profile of caramel, juicy cran-razz cocktail, rich
semi-sweet chocolate, and cooked fruit.
