Evans Brothers Coffee is proud to be featured in the Summer '13 Issue of Sandpoint Magazine, showcasing not only our passion for coffee but our adventurous spirit as well. The article highlights Rick and Randy Evans’ unforgettable experience on the mighty Salmon River during the inaugural “Sandpoint on the Salmon” trip, organized by K-Bear River Adventures. This unique expedition brought together Sandpoint locals and some of our town’s finest purveyors, including Trinity at City Beach, Laughing Dog Brewing, and Pend d’Oreille Winery, for a five-day journey through Idaho’s stunning wilderness.
The Evans brothers took on the rapids with a mix of boldness and humility, trading their barista aprons for stand-up paddleboards and inflatable kayaks—known as duckies. As first-time rafters, they rode their beginner’s luck through much of the trip, navigating whitewater with ease until they met the infamous Vinegar Creek rapid on the final day. A fierce Class III-IV rapid, Vinegar proved to be the great equalizer, flipping their duckie and teaching them a humbling lesson about the power of Idaho’s rivers.
“We were feeling pretty overconfident,” Randy Evans admitted after the spill. “We had just aced all the whitewater the whole trip—and then got hammered on the last rapid.”
The experience perfectly embodies the adventurous, community-driven ethos of Sandpoint. Alongside incredible river guides, gourmet meals, and a micro-Sandpoint atmosphere, the trip brought together the best of Sandpoint’s offerings, including Evans Brothers’ award-winning coffee served each morning amidst the wilderness.
We’re honored to be part of this story celebrating Sandpoint’s unique blend of outdoor adventure, local flavor, and camaraderie. Whether we’re navigating rapids or crafting the perfect cup of coffee, we love representing the spirit of Sandpoint in all we do.
