Introducing: Megan at the Sandpoint cafe
Megan has been part of Evans Brothers Coffee for twelve years, which means she’s not just part of the team, she is part of the story. While she’s a barista at heart, she’s done just about everything at the cafe over the years. From tending the garden and curating art to coordinating food and making deliveries, she shows up wherever she is needed and does it with care.
Outside of work, she brings that same hands-on energy into art, cooking, and volleyball, always keeping life a little creative and a little active. She is the kind of person who cares deeply about things having meaning, especially food, drink, and anything made with intention. Around Evans Brothers, she’s also known as “Mama Bear,” the person who looks out for everyone, keeps things grounded, and somehow makes the whole place feel a little more like home.

The craft: What part of your role do you enjoy most, and why?
“Because I’ve been with Evans Brothers for so long, I’ve had the opportunity to work in pretty much every capacity other than roasting,” Megan says. “I love the diversity of my current jobs as barista, gardener, art curator, delivery driver, and food coordinator. I’m lucky to know almost every aspect of the business and the community at large.”
For Megan, the best part of her role is that no two days ever look the same. One moment she is behind the bar, the next she is coordinating food or helping out with deliveries, and somewhere in between she is making sure the space itself feels thoughtful and cared for. That variety keeps things interesting, but it’s the people that make it meaningful. Whether she is supporting the team or simply keeping an eye on everyone like a built-in safety net, Megan shows up in a way that makes everything feel a little more grounded.
The reality: What is one thing people might not realize about working behind the scenes at Evans Brothers Coffee?
“I don’t think most people realize just how deep our roots grow into this community,” Megan says. “We work with countless businesses, nonprofits, organizations, and schools to provide coffee education, services, training, fundraising and donations.”
Behind the scenes, the work stretches far beyond the cafe walls. It’s constant coordination, connection, and care for the broader community that Evans Brothers is part of. From education and events to support and outreach, there is a lot happening that most people never see, but it all plays a role in keeping those community ties strong.
The journey: How did you get into coffee in the first place?
For Megan, coffee was never just about the drink itself. It was about the story behind it, the people who produced it, and the care that goes into every step along the way. Finding that kind of intention at Evans Brothers made it feel like the right place from the start, and over the years, that curiosity has only grown deeper.
“I’ve always loved artisan foods and beverage, especially when I know they have a story, a history and a connection to source,” Megan says. “I was lucky enough to be welcomed into the Evans Brothers family and this is where my coffee education began.”
The taste: What’s your go-to coffee order when you’re off the clock?
“I am a creature of habit and I really only drink my comfort beverage of medium roast coffee with oat milk and maple,” Megan says.
While she has spent years exploring coffee from every angle, Megan keeps it simple when it comes to her own cup. There is something grounding about sticking with a favorite, especially one that feels familiar and just right every time. It is a small ritual she can count on, no matter how busy the day gets.
The heart: How would you describe the vibe or community at Evans Brothers?
For Megan, the cafe is more than a workplace. It’s a place where relationships are built, where people show up for each other, and where kindness is part of the daily rhythm.
“Evans Brothers is a family. We love and support one another fiercely,” Megan says. “We also love our community and customers. Our work days are filled with an abundance of connection, laughter and coffee.”
That sense of care extends beyond the team and into every interaction with customers, creating a space that feels genuine and welcoming.
Brewing connection, one cup at a time
After twelve years, Megan has become a steady, grounding presence at Evans Brothers Coffee. She brings heart, consistency, and a deep sense of care to everything she touches, whether it’s behind the bar or behind the scenes. Her impact can be felt in the way the cafe runs, the way the team connects, and the way the community continues to grow.
