Coffee Review's For Specialty Coffee
Coffee Review was founded in 1997. It introduced the first-ever 100-point, wine-style coffee reviews to the specialty coffee industry. Coffee Review has become the world’s most widely read and influential coffee buying guide, with as many as one million readers per year. Their mission is to help consumers identify and purchase superior quality coffees and, in the process, help drive demand and increase prices to reward farmers and roasters who invest time, passion, and capital in producing high quality coffee beans.
Costa Rica Las Lajas Perla Negra
Oscar and Francisca Chacón are third-generation Costa Rican coffee producers known for pushing the boundaries of coffee processing. In 2005, they joined Costa Rica’s micromill movement, experimenting with Honey and Natural processes that created remarkably expressive coffees.
After a 2008 earthquake disrupted power and water during harvest, Francisca improvised raised drying beds inspired by African coffee production. That innovation helped shape the Chacón family’s signature Naturals, which soon gained international attention.
Perla Negra is a Natural process coffee, slowly dried with the cherry intact to build sweetness and complexity. The cherries move from raised beds in the sun to shade, then finish in a greenhouse, where they’re turned twice daily throughout the slow drying process.
