- THE FARM & PRODUCERS -

The Gichathaini Wet Mill constitutes one of the three washing stations that compose the Gikanda Farmers Co-op Society, situated within Kenya’s Nyeri region in the Mathira West district. This facility is under the ownership of the coffee producers who supply the cherries for processing. The co-op consists of over 1000 members, out of which 770 members actively engage in vending their coffee through the mill. Nestled about 4 miles from Karatina Town, the factory enjoys favorable conditions: ample precipitation, optimal weather temperatures, fertile soil, and access to pristine water from the Ragati River.

- GOOD FOOD AWARDS 2023 -

We are thrilled to announce that our coffee from producers Francisca & Oscar Chacon of Las Lajas Micromill in Costa Rica has won a 2023 Good Food Award, and we couldn't be more excited! We are the only three-time winner for our region, which includes Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. Winning this award is a true honor and a recognition of our commitment to sustainable sourcing practices and perfecting the art of roasting some of the highest quality coffee in the world.

- THE WINNING COFFEE -

This coffee from Finca Calle Lajas is an Alma Negra Natural, a process that creates a coffee that is bright and full-bodied with sparkling acidity and a rich mouthfeel. Oscar and Francisca Chacon of Las Lajas Micromill are third-generation coffee producers who are committed to quality and innovation, and are best known for being among the first to produce honey coffees in Costa Rica.

- THE FARM & PRODUCERS -

Las Lajas began producing honey coffees in 2008, after an earthquake cut off the mill's access to water for several weeks. Oscar had heard that in Brazil & Ethiopia they use pulped-natural and natural techniques to process coffees, so he tried it with his harvest that year. Around that same time, Café Imports founder and president Andrew Miller visited the area, and was so impressed by the flavor of the Chacons' coffee he became one of the first buyers of the new process.

We are sold out of this one of a kind coffee, however we have several other coffees releasing throughout the year that we are extremely proud of. Shop our current selection of micro-lots here!
